What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They can change the colour, shape, length and alignment of the teeth you see when you smile, and the ceramic reflects light in a way that looks very like natural enamel.
Each set is designed for your face, your lips and your bite. We plan the shape with you first, so you know what to expect before any tooth preparation begins.
Veneers may suit you if
- You would like a more lasting, stain-resistant change than bonding can offer.
- You have several teeth that are worn, chipped, uneven or discoloured.
- Whitening has not given you the shade you want, or the staining is deep.
- You are comfortable with a treatment that involves some preparation of the tooth surface.
What to expect, step by step
Consultation and planning
We talk about what you would like, look at your teeth and bite, and agree the approach.
Preparation
A very thin layer of enamel is usually shaped so that the veneer sits flush. Impressions or scans are taken.
Temporary phase
While your veneers are made, we can fit temporaries so your smile is covered.
Fitting
We check fit, shade and shape with you before the veneers are bonded permanently.
Things to consider
Preparation is permanent
Because some enamel is shaped, porcelain veneers are not a reversible choice. That is why we explain lighter-touch options first.
Care
Veneers need the same brushing and hygiene visits as natural teeth. If you grind your teeth we may suggest a night guard.
Appointments are at KBM Dental in Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. Patients also visit from Churchtown, Milltown, Clonskeagh and the wider South Dublin area. Treatment starts with a consultation, so the plan and the cost are clear before you decide.
